Thursday 26 November 2015 CCPi Working Group meeting at RAL (AVF)

26/11/2015 - 10:30

“Not yet becoming IronMan – but software for Touchable Scientific Visualisations” There are a few new touchscreens being commissioned and built including ones at the ISIS Neutron and / or at the SCD (Scientific Computing Division) R89 building in the Harwell Campus (RAL Rutherford Appleton Laboratory) as well as the screens in the Diamond Light Source and in Research Complex at Harwell. Held in the In the Atlas Visualisation Facility at RAL, this meeting is prior to the CCPi Working Group meeting. See also a related STFC SCD short Highlights document the vis group has put together: http://tyne.dl.ac.uk/twiki/pub/Visualisation/WebHome/vis2015p12.jpg "…to create Touchable Pathways to Impact (and supported initially within the CCPi)"

25/11/2015 - 11:00

Clint Davies-Taylor (SIMULIA) to give a seminar in which he will update staff and students regarding the suite of simulation tools available through certain existing Abaqus licensing agreement. Abstract: " ... SIMULIA - The Power of the Portfolio. This is a one-hour presentation in which I will introduce the Corporation, Brand and Powerful Suite of products that make up the software portfolio of SIMULIA packages namely Abaqus, Tosca, Isight and fe-safe, that you now have at The University of Manchester. Then I will show some industry examples of what it is possible to do with our software and take questions."  The meeting will be held from 1100-1200 on Wednesday 25 November in Room 6.207, University Place. Host Lee Margetts.

EU COST MP1207 Event: Workshop on ROI Tomography in Triest 17-20 Nov 2015

12/11/2015 - 09:30

Upcoming 2-Day Workshop on ‘Compressive Sensing and Sparsity: Theory and Applications in Tomography’ Venue: School of Mathematics, The University of Manchester, UK, 12th & 13th November 2015. Organisers: Oliver Dorn and Martin Lotz Workshop Description: Compressive sensing and sparsity have experienced intensive attention and research interest during the last 10 years in a large variety of applications, including imaging and tomography. The idea is to make use of the fact that many images or signals are sparse in specific problem-dependent bases or frames. Exploiting sparsity is usually a hard combinatorial problem. A breakthrough has been obtained when it was shown that, under certain conditions ...
