Application deadline is 15th November 2017.

The course is designed for Post graduates and ECRs but is open to all. NERC funded students get priority but if spaces are left over, non-NERC applicants are considered. The primary focus will be centred around image analysis through a series of interactive lectures and practical sessions using the participant’s own data concerning computation of morphological parameters (porosity, tortuosity, connectivity, surfaces and others) . Each day is designed to build on the previous day’s knowledge and will end with a hackathon to draw on the key areas delivered throughout the week. Aspects of the course will be taught by leading external researchers as well as a range of NHM experts.

It is a 4-day course, fully funded by NERC. All expenses are covered to ensure little/no cost to the course delegates. There are a total of 15 places available. The Tomviz project is a cross platform, open source application for the processing, visualization, and analysis of 3D tomographic data. Here the full pipeline of data processing steps from reconstruction to visualization to analysis of 3D data can be presented, saved, and restored. The Tomviz project was founded by Marcus D. Hanwell and Utkarsh Ayachit at Kitware, Inc., David A. Muller at Cornell University, and Robert Hovden at the University of Michigan under DOE Office of Science contract DE-SC0011385.”

To get a better understanding of the future needs for investment in cutting-edge and underpinning equipment that will support world-leading physical science and engineering in the UK, EPSRC is working with the academic community to prepare a series of “equipment roadmaps” including one on XCT Technology. An overview of what will be the XCT Tomography roadmap will be given and how you can influence its work; this is a community owned document that can evolve and be revisited being used is a tool for peer-review and planning for the future. This also creates a steer to funders regarding community need and a mechanism for funders to target future infrastructure investment (midrange facilities etc.)

This course aims at PhD students and researchers with a more technical background in or expert users of one of the 3D imaging techniques who want to extend their knowledge on related imaging techniques. The lectures will be given by international experts in their field, and focus on the technical details of the different topics.
